Fun Home by Alison Bechdel


Fun Home by Alison Bechdel is Alison Bechdel's true story of her distant relationship with her father. First off, I would highly recommend Fun Home. It is an amazing story and is beautifully told. One of my favorite parts of Fun Home was how real it was. This is a book that really nails the different facets of strained family relationships. It really showcases the struggles of being distant from a family member, and how that can affect a person. Another aspect of it is that it deals with coming to terms with your sexuality and being gay. This part of the book was done very well, and it really shows how sometimes this can be confusing, and can sometimes even be very difficult to deal with. One thing that helps Fun Home, is that it is a true story, so the author, Alison Bechdel, is talking from her personal experience, and there were many times reading the book where I really related and connected to what she was saying. The book feels so real because it is. This elevates the novel even further, and, like I've said, there were so many times where I really related a lot. Overall, I would highly recommend Fun Home by Alison Bechdel.

    I love Fun Home! The musical is awesome too (but you know that). I didn't know it was a true story though.

For my post, I read an article published in The New York Times titled After Gun Control Marches, ‘It’ll Go Away’ vs. ‘We Are Not Cynical Yet’ by Matt Flegenheimer and Jess Bidgood . The article discusses the current movement for gun control, and why this time feels different than previous movement. The authors interviewed a teen that is fighting for gun control, and the authors discussed how they feel this movement is different because most of its strongest advocates are teens, and they are the next generation and the people that will soon be in-charge of the country. I found this article very poignant and well-written, and I completely agree with most of the points made. Gun violence is out of control in America. At this point, something really needs to be done. In the wake of the Parkland shooting, teens are banding together to try to achieve stronger gun-control in the US. I stand with them, and advocate for this to the best of my ability. A Basic Introduction Hi, ny name is Thomas. This post is going to be an introduction to me, but there's really not much about me to introduce. I love writing, theatre, and film. I am incredibly passionate about a lot of topics, and I love debate. On this blog, I'm hoping to be able to share my opinions on all different types of things. On 9/11: What Hate Will Do

When God Happens  by Mike Rosen For my post, I watched poet Mike Rosen perform his original slam-poem When God Happens , which is about 9/11, and his experience. First off, this poem is stunning in every sense of the word. It is  beautifully written, and Mike Rosen's emotional performance just makes you feel the impact of the event and what the hard reality is ten times harder. I have included a link to his performance, and I would highly recommend watching it. His poem hit me hard, and by the end, I was moved to tears.
